Sleep
How many hours do you sleep on average? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Research shows that an average human being needs about eight hours. And many people who claim that they need less actually need about 8 hours, and they trained themselves to be ok with less. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There is a huge problem with that. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you do not sleep long enough, your deep sleep and REM phases do not add up to the healthy amounts, and the important processes that must happen in the night while you sleep are not performed. In the long term, that will harm your mental and physical health, and very fast will impede your performance. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Let's dive into the science of sleep for a moment: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
>>> in the deep sleep stage (most of these happen in the first half of the night), your body regenerates (the human growth hormone takes care of it), your brain switches to the standby mode and the toxins are flushed out, the metabolism is regulated (vital if you are struggling with maintaining your weight);⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
>>> in the light sleep stage, the procedural learning happens (anything processes);⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
>>> in the Rapid Eye Movement stage, we dream, and the memory gets reconsolidated. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
These are only some examples of what we know that happens while we sleep. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
